The team working on the new Tomb Raider at Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics have launched an official 1 GB patch for the game which changes the voice of main character Lara Croft and the text to French regardless of the language options that players have previously chosen.

The update is automatically delivered via Steam and many gamers were surprised about the new and unusual way the character was talking to them when they launched the title.

The problem was quickly debated on the official forums of the game and after a little digging the community has found that the issues is fixed if players go into the directory for Tomb Raider and simply remove all files that contain the word French.

Some players are reporting that this fixes the voice of Lara Croft although some bits of text in the game remain in a foreign language.

The development team at Crystal Dynamics has also been notified of the problem and has posted an official reaction on the Steam forums, stating that, "Hey folks.. We're aware of the english language option suddenly disappearing from the game, and on some users this is causing it to download an alternate language (french for most)."

The community manager adds, "We're working on a fix as quick as we can.. Hopefully we're talking minutes. Thanks."

Tomb Raider was launched in March of 2013 and the game managed to reboot the entire series and deliver a new version of Lara Croft, which was both more vulnerable and more relatable than the previous incarnation.

Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix are getting ready to launch a Definitive Edition of the title that will be offered on the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4.

The two companies are also widely believed to be already creating a full sequel that might arrive in 2015.
