Heart rate trackers are one of the new features the new wave of smartwatches come embedded with, so we shouldn't be surprised to see these elements make it onto more traditional GPS watches too.

It’s the case of TomTom’s Runner Cardio GPS sport watch which now comes with a built-in Heart Rate Monitor. The wrist mounted device will not only inform you of the current time, but will also be able to monitor your heart rate, putting aside the need of owning a separate chest strap.

So obtaining accurate heart rate information during a workout should be no problem, from now. The fitness watch will let owners train based on five intensity levels. The watch is waterproof and is capable of lasting up to 8 hours if one is using the GPS / heart rate tracking in concert and 10 hours for the GPS only.

The new TomTom Runner Cardio watch is already available for pre-order for $269 / €195. TomTom also pulled off the veil the more versatile Multi-Sport Cardio which will go on sale $299 / €217.

The two watches are waterproof and are pretty though, so you’ll be able to use them in any kind of weather, although it’s hard to imagine you’d want to exercise in the rain.
