TomTom Turn-By-Turn Navigation App Available for iPhone

TomTom has announced the availability of its navigation application for iPhone in the App Store. Apple is expected to make continental and regional versions of the TomTom for iPhone application for iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS users, according to TomTom. TomTom for iPhone costs $99.99 euros with a map of Western Europe and $69.99 with a map of a region. Compatibility with iPod touch is coming soon, TomTom says.

By not using travel-time assumptions, but rather the IQ Routes technology, TomTom bases its routes on the actual experience of TomTom drivers to calculate the fastest route and generate the most accurate arrival times (up to 35% faster). The app comes with an extensive safety camera database including verified safety camera information in 11 European countries. Additional features include:

- Navigation software including fast route-planning and clear voice instructions;
- Automatic re-routing if a turn is missed;
- Route demo or map of route when trip-planning;
- Latest Tele Atlas maps of the US, Canada, Europe, Australia and New Zealand;
- Multiple display options including landscape and portrait navigation view;
- Night and day color mode for optimized screen visibility in varying light conditions;
- Change view settings (2D or 3D map display);
- Multi-touch gestures such as tap, swipe, pinch and zoom to operate the application and zoom in and out of the map;
- Navigation to contacts in address book.
