In a world in which communication has come to mean a quick text phone message asking “how r u” or a depersonalized e-mail we send to all those whose names we remember, iconic singer Tom Jones is the one to speak out on traditional means of keeping in touch with people. In a recent interview, the 68-year-old star admits to have never sent or read a text message.

Moreover, Jones says, he plans on keeping this up because it’s the only way he knows to really interact with people and get to know them for who they really are. Since text messages and e-mails are off limits for the singer, he chooses to really communicate with all those that really matter for him, Tom Jones also adds. “I don’t get any pleasure from that sort of thing. I have never seen a text message – what’s the point? Why not ring someone up?” the singer tells the media.

The explanation for this is, as noted above, that this is the only way that Tom Jones knows to actually stay in contact with people, and thus avoid the depersonalization that modern technology relies on. “I think a lot of people hide behind emails because they don’t like being asked questions. I love being interviewed and asked questions because I like a good chat.” Jones further explains.

The singer, who is still touring extensively – as a matter of fact, he is preparing to start a new tour just now – also maintains in the same interview that making music is one of the greatest pleasures in his life. Being an inspiration for other artists also motivates him to keep on doing his stuff, although it's not the only thing that pushes him forward.

“They tell me I am an inspiration because I still love doing my job so much and it gives them hope that they won’t burn out. I was talking to Robbie Williams on New Year’s Eve and told him I was about to start a massive tour. He said, ‘How do you do it?’ and I told him that you have to love it.” Jones concludes by saying.
