Legendary singer Tom Jones is now a slimmer version of himself, after realizing he’d gained too much weight and couldn’t fit into his suits anymore. His secret is the so-called “Caveman Diet,” which favors fresh foods, he reveals in a recent interview.

Jones says he was never too careful about what he ate – until the day he realized he’d packed so much weight he needed to do something drastic about it, something that wouldn’t have him change his entire wardrobe.

So, he went on a diet, he says in a brand new interview cited by the Daily Mail. Of course, results did not fail to show, and he lost over 28 pounds in five months or so.

“I was putting too much weight on. I didn’t think I was going to and I left the working out for a bit, thought I’d keep a check on it,” the singer reveals.

“But with the Christmas puddings and cakes, before I knew it I was 230lb (16.4 stone) which was 30lb more than I should be,” he adds.

“I couldn’t get into my suits. That’s when I thought: ‘This has got to stop’,” Jones says.

He saw a dietician and read the book “Syndrome X: The Complete Nutritional Program to Prevent and Reverse Insulin Resistance,” and thus came to the conclusion that the caveman diet would be just the right thing for him.

Said diet has the slimmer eat fresh foods processed carbs, which means yes to vegetables, fruit and fish, and no to pasta, pastries and cereal.

To attain his weight goal, Tom says he also had to give up his favorite dinner treat: wine.

“It tells you to get back to what we used to eat when we were hunters and gatherers. Eat anything that’s natural – meat, fish, veg,” the singer says of the diet.

Cutting down on alcohol also helped him a lot to get back in shape, the singer admits.

“The dietician asked [me], ‘how much do you drink?’ I told him I like a bottle of red wine with my dinner. ‘To yourself?’” Jones explains in the same interview.

“What I didn’t tell him was I’d started off with a martini, had a cognac and a bottle of champagne too,” he adds.
