The most amazing thing ever on television could happen soon: two of the most talented and popular actors of the moment, Tom Hiddleston and Benedict Cumberbatch, might star together in one of the hottest TV shows right now, BBC One’s “Sherlock.”

If this ever comes true, the fandom might explode. Both Cumberbatch and Hiddleston have a very strong following online, and the fans’ reactions to this actually happening will be, without a doubt, unlike anything else we’ve seen so far.

Cumberbatch plays the titular character in the modern take on the classic detective novels from BBC One. A Christmas 2015 special has been confirmed, with the fourth season of the series scheduled for a tentative air-date in 2016.

When that happens, fans might get to see Tom as Sherlock’s other brother, Christian Today reports, citing rumors online. They all seem to have originated from an interview series co-creator Mark Gatiss did in Brazil, in which he joked that Hiddleston is a hard man to get on board a project these days.

Since his turn on Loki in “The Avengers,” he’s seen his star shoot up, that much is true.

“Tom would be wonderful in ‘Sherlock’,” Gatiss said of the possibility of Hiddleston joining the cast. “But he only does movies now. What can I say? I'll ask him if you like.”

In all fairness, this sounds just like a joke to me or, at best, a polite way to answer a question that needn’t have been asked in the first place.

Still, because there are many fans who are getting inflamed over it, we might as well take a moment and ponder on what an amazing combination this would be: you just know the chemistry between Hiddleston and Cumberbatch would be truly something else!
