Tom Hiddleston is leaving behind one famous franchise, but he's already planning to enter another, equally famous. The actor who played Loki in the Thor series is now tapped to play a “pivotal role” in the King Kong origin movie “Skull Island.”

The details on the project are still sketchy according to Entertainment Weekly, but what is known is that Jordan Vogt-Roberts is going to act as director and the movie will be based on a script written by Max Borenstein, the same man who penned the script for “Godzilla.”

The setting of the movie has been described as surrounding a mysterious island that was the home of King Kong and other prehistoric creatures, “Previous works have touched on the island, but staying on and exploring this mysterious and dangerous place offers Legendary the opportunity to take audiences deeper inside this rich world with a style and scope that parallels other Legendary productions.”

This interesting development has sparked some serious rumors that the studio is planning a Godzilla and King Kong confrontation movie in the near future. Fans are still undecided if this is a good or a bad thing. Peter Jackson's “King Kong” only lightly touched upon the subject of his origin when the movie came out a few years ago.
