The next big Marvel Project, apart from the Avengers, Captain America and X-Men, is “Dr. Strange.” Though a relatively unknown figure in the Marvel universe, this comic book character has huge potential, with a background story steeped in magic and mystery. That's why so many are fighting for the role.

Today, we add two more big names to the list of actors that have been connected to the part of Stephen Strange, the mysterious doctor who turns into the Sorcerer Supreme and protector of Earth against all magic attacks.

How would Benedict Cumberbactch sound? Or Tom Hardy? Is your nerd sense tingling yet? If not, it should be. Cumberbatch is famous for playing roles such as a modern-day Sherlock Holmes on the TV screen, while a buffed-up Tom Hardy played Bane in Christopher Nolan's “The Dark Knight Rises.”

Deadline brings the names of these two new contenders after it also reported that Jared Leto, Johnny Depp were also mentioned in the casting process. The movie has long been in the works and has just landed a director, Scott Derickson, who will be working off a script written by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer.

This project, along with “Ant-Man,” is among the biggest Marvel has got cooking up at the moment, and the ones which elicit the most excitement from fans.
