Officially, he’s still signed for “Splinter Cell,” based on the video game of the same name, but the project has stalled

Tom Hardy was confirmed for “Splinter Cell,” based on the video game of the same name, back in 2012, but as of the time of writing, the project is still without a script and even an estimated timeline. Though he’s slowly becoming a Hollywood hot commodity, which will translate into a packed schedule, Hardy isn’t ruling it out just yet.

However, should “Splinter Cell” not pan out, he has his sight on another film, this time based on Marvel’s comic books: “The Punisher.”

This one has already seen several incarnations in theaters, one more successful than the other, so no wonder Hardy is throwing his name out there for consideration on the role.

“I want The Punisher,” he tells Collider in a new interview promoting “Mad Max: Fury Road.” “I want The Punisher, or [video game] Splinter Cell. I want something… I don’t know what I want.”

The idea is that he’s not limiting himself to “serious” movie roles, he wants to do other stuff as well. If he ever ends up with Marvel, this will be his second brush with the superhero genre, having played Bane in Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises.”

He came very close to doing another Warner Bros. comic book-based movie, David Ayer’s upcoming “Suicide Squad,” but he had to drop out because shooting on “The Revenant,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio and directed by Alejandro G. Innaritu, went over schedule.
