Even though thrashed by critics, the trilogy “Fifty Shades of Grey,” just like “Twilight” before it, on which it was based, is going to get the film treatment. Two more names are now being thrown around as possible leads.

Tom Hardy and Mila Kunis are reportedly “frontrunners” for the leading parts, Examiner reports citing the same unnamed but admittedly reliable inside sources.

Last we heard, Ryan Gosling was being seriously considered for the project, as also was Angelina Jolie, who was either to star and / or direct it.

While I believe there’s nothing that Hardy touches that doesn’t turn into gold (well, perhaps “This Means War” excluded), I’m torn about this, should it prove to be accurate: as any other diehard fan of his (and there are millions of them!), I’d kill to see him in more movies, but not if they’re of dubious quality.

Should “Fifty Shades” turn out to be just another, more mature “Twilight,” no fan of Hardy’s would want his name associated with that mess.

Then again, the project is still in very early development changes so this too could turn out to be just another silly rumor. Keep an eye on this space for more details.
