Scheduling issues with “The Revenant” made it impossibile

When Tom Hardy was confirmed for Warner Bros.’ upcoming “Suicide Squad,” the fans cheered at the thought of seeing him in yet another villain role since he seems able to do those to such impressive results. He later dropped out of it and was replaced by Joel Kinnaman, whom you probably remember from the “RoboCop” reboot.

Hardy was supposed to play the leader of Task Force X in the David Ayer-directed pic, and rumor had it that he dropped out because he didn’t like the amount of screentime he would get, the direction of the story and / or the idea of working with Ayer.

As per his own admission, Hardy can be “difficult” to work with but he’s trying to tone it down as much as he can.

However, he tells Collider, this wasn’t the real reason he dropped out. Shooting for another film, “The Revenant,” with Leonardo DiCaprio under the direction of Alejandro Inarritu, went over schedule, which meant he had to make more time for it.

That came at the expense of “Suicide Squad,” but Hardy is positive Kinnaman would do a great job in his stead. As a bonus, he reveals he’s read the script in full, so he knows how everything plays out. He can’t and won’t spoil it for fans, but he will say this: it’s an awesome ride.

“I mean, Everybody loves The Joker,” Hardy says. “Everybody loves The Joker. Will Smith is a dope guy, but everybody loves The Joker and that’s gonna, I think, be a very important film for fans.”
