Tom Hardy is back the market. The British actor has reportedly broken off the engagement to Charlotte Riley, only months after making the official announcement. Still, he’s reportedly keen on getting her back.

Contact Music reports that, for reasons yet unknown, the two decided to call things off, a little over half a year after announcing they were engaged.

Sources close to the actor tell the British media that he’s determined to get Charlotte back. The split reportedly occurred last month, so it could be that he’s had a change of heart about it.

“Tom Hardy has split from actress fiancee Charlotte Riley. The couple – who got engaged last July after dating for one year – reportedly broke up last month although the ‘Inception’ actor is said to be desperate to rekindle their relationship,” Contact Music reports.

“Tom and Charlotte broke up last month. He has been calling her a lot to try to patch things up,” a spy says for one of the British tabs, as cited by the aforementioned publication.

If this is true, it could be that Lindsay Lohan may have played a part in the breakup, voices in the blogosphere are saying.

As we also noted a while back, the legally-troubled actress and the “Inception” star met while she was still in rehab at the Betty Ford Clinic, with Hardy coming over to visit Lindsay and offer advice on how to stay sober, inspired from his own experience.

After she completed the treatment, word got out that Tom had accepted to be Lindsay’s unofficial sober mentor. Even later, she was presumably telling friends she was having an affair with him.

Also then, rumors were saying that Charlotte, who met Tom on the set of “Wuthering Heights,” was none too happy about him spending so much time in LA, where Lindsay also was.

“Charlotte isn’t happy about her fiancé’s new LA friend,” a source was saying for the US weeklies at the time, as we also informed you.

Speculation about Hardy having issues on a personal level first began when he was a no-show at the BAFTA Awards 2011, where he was honored with the Orange Rising Star Awards, Contact Music points out.
