Double Oscar-winner Tom Hanks will star in Aaron Sorkin's "Charlie Wilson's War" for Universal Pictures. His post-Da Vinci Code project offers him the part of a "rogue Texas congressman" who "watched his political career almost go down the drain in the early 1980s when he was caught in a hot tub tryst with two cocaine-sniffing showgirls in Las Vegas."
The screenplay of the movie, directed by the Emmy winner Aaron Sorkin (The West Wing), and produced by Hanks and Gary Goetzman, is an adaptation of George Crile's fact-based book on a politician who survived a scandal and went on to overseeing the largest the US operation to covertly fund Afghan resistance fighters in Soviet-occupied Afghanistan.
The shooting is set to begin next spring after Hanks completes The Da Vinci Code.
