The 49-year-old actor and film director has been voted in as vice-president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
The Academy elected Sid Ganis as new president, replacing Frank Pierson, who served a maximum four one-year terms and named the two-time Oscar winner Tom Hanks as vice-president of the famous organization.
Ganis will soon appoint a producer for the Oscars ceremony, which is set to take place on 5 March.
Hanks, who is currently shooting a film version of The Da Vinci Code, and will star in "Charlie Wilson's War", has formerly acted as governor of the actor's branch of the Academy.
