Tom Hanks, one of the stars involved in the already far too controversial movie, had a harsh reply to religious groups who want people to boycott ''The Da Vinci Code.'' Tom Hanks plays lead character Robert Langdon in the film and the other stars involved are Paul Bettany, Audrey Tatou and Jean Reno.
Hanks said the religious groups who demand the boycott of the movie and attack all the facts connected to the story „are taking it too seriously" and that the film is just "scavenger-hunt-type nonsense."
London's Evening Standard newspaper published most of the statements connected to the matter Hanks gave: "We always knew there would be a segment of society that would not want this movie to be shown.
But the story we tell is loaded with all sorts of hooey and fun kind of scavenger-hunt-type nonsense."
Not few are the Christian groups that labeled the Da Vinci Code, both the novel (a huge best-seller by Dan Brown) and the movie (directed by Ron Howard) - as blasphemous, because they suggest Jesus Christ had a child with Mary Magdalene and that his bloodline continues to present day.
Catholic conservative organization, Opus Dei is directly involved in the novel: Dan Brown suggests that the organization would even resort to murder in order to cover up the dirty well hidden secrets of the church.
Hanks ended his statement saying: "It's a damn good story and a lot of fun, it's just dialogue. That never hurts. You would be making a big mistake to take it at face value."
The Da Vinci Code is to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.
