Designer Tom Ford is against celebrity using their children as “tools” that earn them more media attention, he says in a recent interview. Reports have it that he’s not speaking in general terms either, but directly attacking stylist Rachel Zoe. Though he’s not a father yet, Ford says he’s not against the idea of one day becoming one. When that happens, though, he will make sure no one but his closest friends will know about it.
Certain unwritten rules in showbiz have it that celebrities must pose for pregnancy pics, release the first photos of the babies to a magazine and talk in great detail about the new addition to the family.
When he has children, Tom plans to do none of that because he wants the experience of having and raising a baby to remain a personal one, as it was meant to be since the beginning of time, and not some media circus.
“If I have children, no one will know about it until the child is born,” he says in a recent statement cited by
The Cut.
“And no one will ever see the child because I certainly wouldn’t use it as a press tool. If I have a child, you’ll see and notice that I had a child,” the designer adds.
“Maybe you’ll see it when it’s 18, but I will keep it out of the spotlight. I wouldn’t use it as a press tool, as some people I know, have, recently,” Ford further says.
Word in the blogosphere has it that the “some people I know” part is not Ford speaking generally, but a direct reference at Rachel Zoe, who gave birth to her first child just recently.
Named the world’s most influential and successful celebrity stylist, in recent weeks, Zoe has been spotted everywhere accompanied by her son and, of course, there are countless paparazzi shots to prove that.
On a recent shopping trip, she even put on him sunglasses that matched hers, while reports suggested she may have called the paparazzi herself to let them know where she was.
No word yet on what Ford and Zoe may have to share, but many celebrity pundits are convinced he was slamming her with the above statement.
