He is the only star ever to make number one twice in the annual publication's rundown of the most famous 100 persons. He first got this distinction in 2001; last year, he came in tenth but in 2006 he makes up and wins again first prize.
Thanks to smashing movies like 'War of the Worlds' (released last year) and 'Mission Impossible III' (that just hit the big screens), Tom Cruise is now declared to be the most powerful person on the planet.
Last year, he brought home earnings of $67 million. Although directors like Steven Spielberg and George Lucas make more money that the actor ($332 millions and, respectively, $235 millions), the list also takes into consideration the fame of the person that is meant to appear in it, and the 'quantity' of media coverage that he or she receives. And nobody can say that Cruise is a retired person...
No such thing goes for Tom: he loves his life (who wouldn't?) and he likes living it in front of the cameras. First, he made all the newspapers when he fell in love with the much younger actress Katie Holmes; then, he made a baby with her and now, rumors of a closing marriage are already circulating for some time. And that's just his personal life!
The actor's PRs have always complained about the fact that people are more interested in his life than in his acting career. They might rest at ease now, as 'Forbes' clearly acknowledges all of Cruise's accomplishments.
