Ecstatic over his first biological child being on the way, Tom Cruise has bought his own sonogram machine, in order to follow the baby's progress. Him and Kate have
postponed the wedding, and are now totally focusing on the arrival of their first born.
But, according to The American College of Radiology, buying a sonogram machine wasn't by far the best decision for Tom Cruise. Using it could not only be dangerous, but also a violation of federal law.
The ACR issued a press release stating that fetal ultrasound should only be performed by certified technologists with a prescription from an appropriately licensed provider:
"Untrained people, even if they have the financial means, should not buy, or be allowed to buy and operate, ultrasound machines which are, in fact, medical devices and should not be used without a medical indication", Chairman of the ACR Ultrasound Commission Carol M. Rumack said.
"Tom Cruise has been badly advised" was the opinion of the ACR.
The actor planned to donate the machine to a maternity ward after the birth.
But, if doctors say repeated fetal ultrasounds could be dangerous for the child, Mr. Cruise might change his mind and give the machine away sooner.
