“Star Wars Episode VII” has been in production for several weeks now but casting is far from complete. According to fresh reports from the British media via the Daily Mail, Tom Cruise would also like a part on the highly anticipated sequel.

J.J. Abrams is writing the script and directing the film, which is shooting in London. We know that production has come to a temporary halt after Harrison Ford’s accident that broke his ankle, which means that Abrams would have enough time to cast other roles.

He’d be interested to have Tom Cruise in one of them, apparently.

“Tom has been in London for over a week and met up with J.J. and some other people from Star Wars at the weekend,” an insider familiar with the production says. “On Saturday evening five of them met up for dinner and drinks at the Belgravia Hotel. J.J. loves working with Tom whenever he gets the chance.”

The report doesn’t mention anything about the role Cruise could potentially get, but it’s probably safe to assume that nothing will come out of this rumor, if only for the reason that Tom’s career is peaking again.

He’s made a very successful comeback as an action movie star, which means he’s simply too big to play second fiddle to anyone else, let alone do a minor role, even in a franchise as huge as “Star Wars.”

And, let’s be serious here, from what we’re hearing, “Episode VII” will be Ford’s playground, without a doubt, so there would simply make no sense to have another big name in it.
