When Katie Holmes filed for divorce from Tom Cruise without as much as bothering to let him know of her intentions (allegedly), the entire world pointed a finger at the Church of Scientology, of which he is a member, for the dissolution of his third marriage.

According to a new report, so does Tom.

The People reports that the Hollywood star is seriously considering severing all links to the Church after realizing that it’s already cost him three marriages, The Mirror notes.

Moreover, he’s determined to win Katie back and, since the reason she divorced him was a fear that their daughter Suri would be converted to Scientology, quitting the cult might be just the way to do that.

“Now he’s lost the most precious thing in his life, he sees that his Scientology beliefs may not have hurt his box office but have ended not one but two marriages,” an insider is quoted as saying.

“It was a terrifying and rude awakening for Tom when Katie served him with divorce papers. He’s used to feeling undefeatable and untouchable. When he lost Katie he felt a failure,” adds the same spy who claims to be close enough to Tom to know this kind of things.

Tom turned to Scientology in 1990, when he was still married to his first wife, Mimi Rogers. His divorce from Nicole Kidman years later would also be blamed on his religious beliefs, though he always denied the two were ever connected.

Today, after he’s seen his third marriage go down the drain as well, Tom is starting to ask himself the same questions some of his fans have also asked: could it be that his involvement with the cult means too much of a sacrifice for him on a personal level?

“He has lost Nicole and now his wife and daughter. He has always used the Scientology techniques but he has now realized they don’t work in marriage,” says the spy.

The fact that Tom’s relationship with David Miscavige, the leader of the Church of Scientology, has been deteriorating in recent years might have also contributed to his second-guessing his beliefs.

“Tom and David have been attached at the hip but this relationship has deteriorated and that, along with the loss of Katie and Suri, is forcing him to question his role in the church,” the insider explains.

“He hasn’t lost faith completely but he is blaming Scientology for what has happened,” adds the spy.
