It seems that not just fans are excited about the upcoming sequel to the quintessential action movie “Top Gun,” but also Tom Cruise. The actor, who is currently promoting his latest film “Edge of Tomorrow,” has also addressed his upcoming project that will see him return as the jet fighter pilot known by his handle, Maverick.

In an interview quoted by Digital Spy, Tom has revealed that he's started work on the project with producer Jerry Bruckheimer and offered some inside information about the plot. He hinted that the sequel is going to touch on the delicate and controversial issues of the use of military drones.

“Jerry and I, we're working on it. If we can figure it out, it'll be a lot of fun,” Cruise teased, but also added that “I'd like to get back in those jets if we could figure the story out.”

Bruckheimer too has expressed excitement about revisiting the movie after all these years but was a little more reserved, taking care to pay tribute to the movie's original director, Tony Scott, who passed away in a tragic suicide attempt in 2012.

In a previous interview, Bruckheimer explained that Scott had come up with the outlines of the plot prior to his death, “The concept is, basically, are the pilots obsolete because of drones. Cruise is going to show them that they're not obsolete. They're here to stay.”
