Tom Cruise and wife Katie Holmes will not be at next month’s Academy Awards because they’re still sore of a spoof Anne Hathaway did of Katie on Saturday Night Live in November last year, it has emerged.

As we also told you at the time, Hathaway did a cameo as Katie on SNL, the “Miley Cyrus Show” skit – and she got the Holmes impersonation spot-on, speaking in breathy tones, twisting her hair and curling one side of her mouth.

The impersonation was so good that, almost immediately after the skit aired, word got out that Holmes herself had seen it and found it terribly offensive, especially since she considered Anne a true friend.

It would seem that Holmes is still holding a grudge – so much so that neither she nor Tom will be at the Oscars that Anne will be hosting, a well-informed (but unnamed) source tells the Daily Mail.

This way, the two will make sure to send Hathaway the message that they’ve still not forgiven her for the spoof, while also avoid a potentially embarrassing run-in on the red carpet or at the after-party.

“Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes may boycott next month’s Oscars ceremony because they don’t want an awkward red carpet confrontation with the host, Anne Hathaway,” the Mail writes.

The source vouched Tom and Katie are still very much upset with her for doing the spoof – or at least having the courtesy to tell them it was going to be on television.

“Tom and Katie don’t want to have to cross paths with Anne. They used to be friends and took Anne to a Tina Turner concert in 2008 when Anne split up from her boyfriend Raffaello Follieri,” says the spy.

“Katie feels they were really supportive at a difficult time so she feels let down that Anne took to national TV to make fun of her,” the insider adds.

“Anne didn’t even warn her it was going to be on TV. The whole thing has left a sour taste with Tom,” the source says.

To see just what it was that got Tom and Katie fuming mad, check out the video below for Anne Hathaway’s take on Katie in the SNL spoof.

*Update [January 11, 2011]: A rep for Tom Cruise tells PopEater the boycott story is "not true and made up." The Cruises never planned on attending the Oscars and Hathaway's spoof had nothing to do with the decision.
