We've received word from Ubisoft that development on Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is well underway for next-gen systems and PC, while the company behind hit titles such as Splinter Cell: Double Agent and Assasin's Creed has confirmed the sequel's arrival on the market in March, 2008. Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is the sixth installment in the popular team-based FPS series.

With the release of Rainbow Six Vegas 2, the franchise celebrates 10 years on the market, during which time more than 16 million units were sold worldwide. Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is said to add plenty of new features, as far as gameplay is concerned, with improved visuals as well. The picture you see to the top left side of the article (click to enlarge) shows that very aspect.

During gameplay, players will basically have to use as many tactical possibilities as they can, in various locations around Sin City. Sin City, is the home of the famous Las Vegas Strip, flashy hotels, high-rolling casinos and world-famous celebrities, becomes the setting for a terrorist threat of global proportions. The whole city is held hostage by terrorists during the events of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas (the first iteration).

And, as far as online multiplayer goes, Rainbow Six Vegas 2 will sport both co-op and adversarial modes, while "providing unprecedented interaction between the solo and multiplayer modes," as the official report goes.

"Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas took the gaming world by storm in 2006 thanks to its technological advances and gameplay innovations," said Yves Guillemot, president and chief executive officer at Ubisoft. "We are convinced that Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2 will remain a pioneer in the highly competitive first person shooter genre, bringing more of what Rainbow Six fans love to the table."

Remember, development on Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is well underway, the game being slated for a March 2008 release on next-gen consoles and PC.
