A sinkhole created in Toledo in July has caused a large bill for the city. Toledo News Now informed that the city council contracted private operators to solve the problem right away.

They are now due a $73,000 (€54.750) payment to Schumaker Brothers Construction. In addition to that, they have paid city workers, which brings the costs up to about $100,000 (€75,000). The City Council is set to meet to approve the large bill.

Public Utilities Director Dave Welch explained that the ground crashed in an intersection that usually registers high traffic and not repairing it would have cost the city more.

The sinkhole was formed when a crossover section between two sewer lines gave out, swallowing a woman's car. As I informed you, 60-year-old Pamela Knox was in the car but she escaped with minor injuries.

"That's a busy road at Detroit and Bancroft. It was affecting the area. It was a 36-inch (92-cm) main that broke. We had to get in there right away. These guys, as private contractors, have the expertise to get to it right away. That's why we used them," Welch notes.
