Blocks modular smartwatch will run Tizen OS

Just yesterday I told you about Blocks, the innovative smartwatch platform that wants to do what Google’s Project Ara is supposed to do for smartphones.

The blueprint for the Blocks enterprise appeared back in April, but now the company is opening up pre-orders for the first batches of customizable smartwatches, which will sell quite affordably.

Anyway, until now we didn’t know what OS was going to adorn Blocks, but I had placed my bet on Android Wear. It appears that this is not the case and the operating system of choice will be Tizen (said to be a collaboration between Samsung and Intel).

The smartwatch is expected to be quite universal, being capable of working in concert with iOS, Windows Phone, and Android handsets.

The basic concept behind Blocks is that buyers should be allowed to customize the wearable according to their needs and lifestyle. So, if you’re a sporty-type of person, your watch should be waterproof and packed with various health-related sensors, for example.

Blocks will continue to refresh its options, so as soon as a new trend in smartwatch technology surfaces, you’ll be able to put in your device.
