Titanfall, the first-person shooter created by Respawn Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts, is the best-selling video game for the United Kingdom market for the month of March, showing the impact that a well-designed title can have even during the spring period.

The game was only offered on the Xbox One home console from Microsoft and the PC during the month and it’s unclear how many copies were sold on each of the two platforms.

Since then, Titanfall has also been released on the Xbox 360 and the development team has delivered two major updates, which solve bugs and introduce balance fixes, while also announcing that it is working on the first official piece of downloadable content.

Somewhat surprisingly, the second place in the United Kingdom March chart, which is available on NeoGAF, belongs to Thief, the remake of the classic title that was developed by Eidos Montreal and published by Square Enix.

The game has solid mechanics and an interesting setting, but fans of the stealth-based original were disappointed by the story that the title delivered and by the less than impressive design of the world.

South Park: The Stick of Truth, the action party-based role-playing game from Obsidian and Ubisoft, is in third place and comes ahead of InFamous: Second Son, the big PlayStation 4 launch that took place near the end of the month.

The title, created by Sucker Punch and published by Sony, was credited with increasing sales of the PS4 and the companies have also announced that it has managed to sell more than 1 million units in a nine-day period worldwide.

The LEGO Movie Video Game is in fifth place followed by FIFA 14, the football simulation from EA Sports.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, the new title from Hideo Kojima, has performed honorably and landed in seven despite being criticized by fans of the series for being too short, while Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare is at the moment in eight.

Dark Souls 2, the third-person action title created by From Software, is in ninth and Call of Duty: Ghosts closes down the United Kingdom top ten for March.

Despite the solid performance of Titanfall and Thief, overall video game sales for the month were down when compared to the same period of last year by about 20 percent.

The big performers of March 2013 were the Tomb Raider remake and BioShock Infinite.
