Respawn Entertainment is rumored to be working on something else besides pre-production of Titanfall 2, according to several clues scattered around the Internet.

The latest treasure hunt shows that the studio might have something else entirely in the works, in addition to reportedly creating a sequel to Titanfall that might break the IP's Xbox platform exclusivity, after signing a deal with Electronic Arts.

Last week, we delivered the news that former God of War boss Stig Asmussen joined Respawn Entertainment and started working as game director of an entirely different project than Titanfall.

Now, some new recruiting ads have surfaced on the developer's website, as grabbed by AllGamesBeta, suggesting that the new game is some sort of "third person action/exploration" title.

"Respawn offers not only competitive salaries, benefits and a great work environment, but an opportunity to work on an exciting new IP with talented developers who have worked on some of the biggest video game titles in history," reads the blurb on Respawn's website.

While it is common practice for development studios to start working on a new project right after delivering a very successful game, Respawn seems to be breaking away from first-person shooters, a surprising move considering the pedigree of the development team, consisting of former Infinity Ward devs, including Jason West and Vince Zampella.

Although the talent that created Call of Duty has first-person shooters in its blood, it's shown that it's ready to tackle something more and evolve the genre with Titanfall, and it's going to be very interesting to see them explore new avenues to channel their creativity.

Their next project will most likely be multi-platform, as studio head Vince Zampella has mentioned that they're looking to also make games for PlayStation consoles, "just not the first Titanfall," which he has mentioned will remain exclusive to Microsoft's Xbox 360, Xbox One and Windows PC platforms.

Respawn is also maintaining a close relationship with publisher Electronic Arts, with whom they signed a publishing deal meant to bring new Titanfall experiences to players worldwide.

Still, Respawn is an independent studio, and that means that both Sony and Microsoft might attempt to grab some more exclusive content, especially since Titanfall did so well, becoming the best-selling Xbox One game to date and surpassing the ambitious expectations of both Respawn and EA.

Whatever it is they're working on, considering their pedigree and the success they had with Titanfall, it's bound to be something exciting. We'll come back with more as soon as further information on the project becomes available.
