Officially made for people with limited mobility, it has much more potential

Exoskeletons really only have the same purpose: to make people or machines stronger or otherwise capable of superhuman feats.

A group of students at the University of Pennsylvania have created the next best thing: TitanArm.

Not a full exoskeleton, it only covers the arm and enhances the lifting capabilities of users.

Sure, heavy lifting will still depend on the strength of back muscles, and people should really take care not to crush their spines.

That said, TitanArm has an aluminum frame, an electric motor, and a cable-driven system.

Ostensibly, it was created for people with limited mobility, or as an aide for people as they went through rehabilitation.

I wouldn't be shocked to see it put to some other use though, like transportation. Assuming it ever turns into a commercially-available product that is.
