Losing weight and keeping it off can obviously be done only in one way – the healthy way –, by changing the diet and sticking with a workout routine. However, it’s also a known fact that most women, no matter how good they look, would still like to improve their appearance, which is where the oldest tricks in the book come in, as summed by a recent Daily Mail piece.

Anyone can look slimmer and more toned by using a few simple artifices, like choosing clothes that flatter each body type and emphasize the strong suits, instead of blindly going for what is “trendy.” Using the right kind of accessories can also take off a few pounds, but only on the condition we choose them wisely, experts also say for the Mail. However, what many of us probably don’t know is that underwear is also very important.

This is why the Mail advises us to invest in good underwear. “Shapewear is the easiest way to change your silhouette without visiting the gym. You can target and smooth problem areas, lift your bottom, flatten your stomach, slim your hips and define your waist.” Soozie Jenkinson, head of lingerie design for M&S, says. What this means is that, if there’s a problem with one particular area and we want to do something about it in a matter of just hours to look good in that new dress we just bought, control underpants is the way to go.

A good hairdo also creates the impression of a slimmer you, because it can distract attention from things like a double chin or too round a face. “The trick to giving the appearance of a slimmer face is to ensure your style elongates rather than accentuates roundness. Anything with a fringe or jaw-length styles just add width to your features. The Jennifer Aniston style is an extremely flattering look for most women, as it draws the face lengthwards and detracts from the widest part of the face.” celebrity stylist Richard Ward explains.

A well-applied tan is also a must if looking slimmer is on our top priority list, as we were also telling you a while back. However, experts warn to avoid tanning beds, as they can dramatically increase the risk of cancer, and stick instead with the ever-reliable, safe spray-on. If this is an area we’re not very good in, we can always go to a beauty salon to have a professional do our spray-on, fake tan.
