TinyChat gets 1 million users, adds broadcasting feature and supports Facebook Chat Protocol

TinyChat is a chat service which has managed to attract one million members within 75 days, since it started accepting user registrations. It recently launched a new broadcasting feature resembling Twitter’s, as well as support for Facebook Chat Protocol.

Besides being a bootstrapped startup, TinyChat has quickly become very popular as it enables users to build a throw-away chat room with little to no hassle.

Considering that TinyChat had very few social features, except its dedicated chatrooms, the fact it is attracting about 12,000 new members a day is quite amazing.

Users could only ‘follow’ others so as to have the possibility to send private messages, without being able to find out the exact room they were chatting in.

The launch of the broadcasting feature is meant to allow members to inform their followers whenever they join a new room, thus helping to create a sense of community that would bring even more users.

In order to celebrate the 1 million members, TinyChat team has also introduced support for the Facebook Chat Protocol, which is another way of saying the users will be able to discuss with their FB buddies from a TinyChat window.

Furthermore, according to cofounder Dan Blake, they are also working on building a TinyChat downloadable client that will be based on the well-known Pidgin framework, while also supporting other chat protocols.

Taking into consideration that they have already enabled live streaming of any video or show hosted on Tinychat and that an iPhone dedicated application is also in the works, one could be sure TinyChat is definitely here to stay, and that it still has a lot of novelties to bring to its fans.

After all, the service is already profitable, and it is bound to generate even more revenue to its founders, especially since it is “really easy” to build a chat room using this platform, as Dan Blake declared.
