The Geco Mark II supports all types of glasses

Action cameras are photo and video capture devices small enough to mount on helmets, clothing straps, bicycle handles, and other spots you feel might be suitable while you're hiking, biking or otherwise traveling.

The people at Geco have just launched a camera that can be installed on the frame of your glasses, thus allowing you to treat the world around you as if you were wearing a smart eye headset.

Although that might be a stretch, seeing as how the camera only records film. The glasses themselves won't gain any special abilities, like showing messages. So no, you won't turn your glasses into Google Glass just by attaching Geco to them.

Of course, with the poor sales of the augmented reality headset, the point is kind of moot anyway, but we digress.

The Geco Mark II action camera

Measuring 60 x 12 x 30 mm / 2.4 x 0.5 x 1.2 inches, the camera weighs just 20 grams / 0.70 ounces and can strap to the temple of eyeglasses and sunglasses alike.

Geco Mark II is the first glasses-mounted action cam actually, since all others needed something more solid, like the equipment we mentioned initially. A dozen types of elastic mounts can be used to make the device stay in place.

The world in front of you is filmed through a 100-degree lens and the device records film in .mov format, with quality of 1080p (at 30 frames per second / fps) or 720p (at 60 or 30fps). You get to choose which.

A status LED light indicates whether the camera is working or not (not that you'll see it from that angle).

The Geco Mark II should be able to record film in 720p for one hour before its memory is full, 45 minutes in 1080p. A microphone is included in the specs sheet of course, to include sound in it.

All you need to do after putting your glasses on is press the on/off/record button and let the device do its thing in peace.

All in all, the specs left us somewhat ambivalent. On the one hand, the Geco Mark II is very tiny and neat, but on the other hand, the film time is very short compared to other action cams.

Availability and pricing

The Mark II has a price of $200 / €173 but is not available yet. It will be put up for sale at some point in the future, with an 8 GB microSD card and charger included. To secure a pre-order, you can visit the Geco website and sign up.
