Don't jump with joy yet, it's a limited edition and costs much more

Asustek's tiny Eee PC is one of the best-selling ultra-mobile PCs in the world. In fact, it sold so well, that people "wearing" the Eee can be seen almost everywhere. However, when fashion is becoming a standard, there's nothing much special left in having one of the units. That's why custom-made Eee PCs have recently emerged on websites such as eBay.

If you are a fashionable computer user, you might want to try the newest model in the series: a standard 701 unit covered in high-tech carbon fiber material. As if the refurbished design was not enough, it also got a functional update, comprised of increased memory and storage space.

The new model is an unofficial tweak performed by one of the small computer's enthusiast users. The 7-inch model comes with 8 GB of solid-state drive storage, 2 GB of system memory and a pre-installed version of windows XP to replace the eye-candy Xandros operating system in the default version. More than that, the unit comes with a bundled Logitech mini-mouse as a bonus, but rest assured, its price is covered by the pretty bulky price tag.

According to its manufacturer, the "exclusive carbon fiber design" is not made of cheap polymers that crack and peel off, but rather of real carbon fiber covering the Eee's lid and wrist rest. The new material gives the notebook a more professional look with zig-zag patterns that remind of the successful and expensive Lamborghini model from Asustek.

Despite the fact that it ships by default with Windows XP, the seller has posted images of the Eee running Windows Vista, so it is alleged that you could easily update the pre-installed copy of XP, if you wish so. The only noticeable drawback is the fact that it ships from Taiwan, and the keyboard is fitted with both English and Chinese characters.
