The partnership between Nike and Apple to bring runners the Nike+ iPod Storts Kit has been a great success, with many happy customers revolutionizing the way they run. While both companies are building on that solid foundation to bring users a better experience, other similar accessories are looking to jump on the badwagon.

One such accessory is the wireless iPod-controlling watch for sporty types from Timex. The iControl watch is an advanced sports timepiece that also works as a wireless remote for the iPod and the iPhone, when it is in airplane mode. Using the iControl watch, users can easily control their iPod with the Play/Pause, Volume Up/Down and Track Forward/Back functions. The device also includes features for sportsmen and women, such as a 50-lap memory recall chronograph, a multi-mode countdown timer, two interval timers for speed and endurance training and three alarms.

The lightweight iControl watch is a new member of the company's Ironman collection of rugged, hard-wearing sports watches. It has a night-light for use in the dark and its battery life is three years. It is also water-resistant to up to 100 meters.

"The days of fumbling for your iPod in mid-stride are over," said Heberto Calves, vice president of sports marketing. "iControl offers cutting edge technology and contemporary design, in addition to the functional quality and durability people have come to expect from Timex."

The device is available in the US from both Timex and Apple, in combinations of grey and black, as well as pink, blue, orange and green. Unlike the Nike+ kit which was not only incredibly practical but also very affordable, the iControl watch costs quite a bit if you are only interested in an iPod remote. At $125, it costs more than an iPod, but for those who need its functionality it is well worth it.
