Following the recent issues, the dev team says they've figured out a way to keep going without any more problems

Popcorn Time has had quite a few troubles in the past few weeks, especially after its domain was suspended by the registrar following a complaint from copyright holders. Now, however, they claim to be unstoppable.

The Time4Popcorn is undoubtedly the most popular Popcorn Time fork. Last month, its domain was suspended, which caused the app to stop working due to the tight connection between the BitTorrent streaming app and the site.

An update soon came, fixing things up as the service moved to another domain, but the issue was out there – suspending the domain could also take down the app, something that the developers behind the tool want to avoid. In the end, the fact that EURid suspended the domain led to this weakness being exposed and for the team behind Time4Popcorn to step up and close the loop for good.

“We’ve built the 5.0 beta so that no one will be able to take it down. Popcorn Time from now on will keep on working as usual even if our domain gets removed, and in the future even the necessary data for Popcorn Time will be transferred purely via Peer2Peer,” the team told Torrent Freak.

At the time, however, it seems that they’re still relying on some central servers, which makes the app far from unstoppable, but it won’t be long before their plan gets put into practice.

They claim, as mentioned above, that it was the EURid issues that opened their eyes and made them better and wiser about what needed to be done.

New version, new features

The latest beta brings some improvements to the software, including some new feature. There’s a new user interface that should make handling it that much easier, as well as touch screen support for everyone who uses the app on tablets, for instance. They’ve also added new sections for cartoons and animes.

“Up until now upon downloading a movie with Popcorn Time you would seed the torrent only while it downloads. Un-intentionally we created a community of leaches (sorry community) and it’s time to change that. In the new version there’s an ‘enable seeding’ check box, though just a few hours ago we found a few issues with this feature so at the moment it’s disables and it will be enabled in the upcoming days,” reads a blog post signed by the Time4Popcorn team.

There also some more updates, such as search suggestions, keyboard navigation, a larger library of movies and a previously watched list.
