Other arts also faced opposition when they were first introduced

According to the developer of Brutal Legend, Monkey Island and Psychonauts video games can be considered art, but that should not continue to be a point of contention between fans of the medium and those of other forms of artistic expression.

Tim Schafer, who is the leader of Double Fine, has told GameFront that, “I’m sure there was a time when movies first started that they weren’t considered art, and it’s not like movies went to the world of literature and said, ‘Please, could you say that we’re art?’”

He added, “They didn’t ask permission from fine painting, they just did what they did and they took it seriously, and that’s where people started considering it art.”

Tim Schafer is currently working on a new project built around a Kickstarter project, which will use the classic adventure template but will be adapted to the requirements of the modern gaming space.
