Tim Schafer, one of the most popular game designers in the industry, has just admitted in a recent interview that he would love and is ready to create Psychonauts 2, a sequel to one of the most interesting titles from back in the day.

Schafer, who now leads his own company, Double Fine Productions, has worked on popular adventure franchises like Tales of Monkey Island, Full Throttle or the more recent Brutal Legend.

Psychonauts was one of the first games he released from Double Fine, and even though it was loved by critics for its quirky story and unique characters, didn't exactly sell as well as everyone hoped.

Now though, Schafer is ready to make a sequel, which might arrive as a downloadable title on digital distribution platforms like Steam, the PlayStation Network or Xbox Live.

"I'm ready to do it. I'd love to do it. It's really a question of getting a publisher who's interested in doing it."

According to Schafer, the original game has now impressed a lot of people thanks to word of mouth, sales on Steam and even piracy, so there is a large potential user base out there which would love a sequel.

"Over the years it's gotten into the hands of a lot of people, through being two dollars on Steam for a while, and being pirated. So it's gotten out there. So if all these people were going to buy the sequel it would be a big hit," added Schafer.

Psychonauts was released originally for the PC, PlayStation 2 and the original Xbox, back in 2005, and a Xbox Originals version, made for the Xbox 360, was released in 2007.

The game told the story of Raz, a young boy which traveled through the minds of other people and helped them with getting over their fears or memories of the past.
