Apple CEO Tim Cook has confirmed in a special interview airing tonight on NBC’s “Rock Center” that Macintosh manufacturing will also take place in the US starting next year.Cook did not confirm which Mac line would begin to be manufactured in the United States, but NBC confirms that at least one range of Macs will be “exclusively” built in America.
“We’ve been working for years on doing more and more in the United States,” Cook told Rock Center anchor Brian Williams.
Cook said Apple has created more than 600,000 jobs in the United States, not all of which are Apple hires. Some jobs have been created in research and development, while others are third-party application developing jobs.
The Apple CEO said he wanted to create as many jobs as possible for the US, but noted, “It’s not so much about price, it’s about the skills,” Cook told Williams. “The consumer electronics world was really never here. It’s a matter of starting it here,” he noted.
