The WSJ-owned All Things D has confirmed that the first big speaker to take the to stage at D11 this year will be Tim Cook, Apple’s chief executive officer.

Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher are prepared to assault Cook with questions regarding “the explosive growth of the mobile market, [the] intense competition from a range of rivals, most especially Google’s Android, as well as innovative offerings from Korea’s Samsung.”

It’ll be interesting to see how Cook downplays all the speculation about Apple lagging behind, and “It will also be interesting to talk about the changes at Apple under the leadership of Cook,” Swisher and Mossberg report.

Cook will be joined on the D11 stage by other big names in the industry, including Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, Motorola Mobility’s Dennis Woodside, Pinterest’s Ben Silbermann, Android Chief Sundar Pichai, Sony’s Kaz Hirai, and ABC’s Anne Sweeney.

The conference starts on May 28 and is set to conclude on May 30.
