This week, the divorce of Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren became final, which means both are now at liberty to talk about the massive cheating scandal and the subsequent separation, if they so desire.
After Elin’s first (and presumably last) interview with People magazine on how she felt when she learned about Tiger’s infidelity and whether she believed she could ever forgive him, it’s now the golfer’s turn, as E! Online can confirm.
Though Tiger has spoken out about the cheating scandal before, it was never through a Q&A, choosing to have a statement prepared beforehand and simply reading it to the camera. This time, it was different.
The golfer took questions from reporters about the divorce, whether he still loved Elin, if he had any regrets about his past choices and how he planned his comeback to the world of sports.
Albeit still a bit vague, Tiger assumed responsibility for his mistakes and stressed that the focus was now on moving on from the failed marriage in such a way as to impact very little the children he and Elin have together.
“It’s a sad time in our lives and were looking forward in our lives and how we can help our kids as best we can. I think that’s the most important thing. It’s a sad time and we’re going through it right now,” the star said.
Divorcing Elin and having a very hard time on a personal level have nothing to do with his gold career, he also explained. The decision to come back was the only logical possibility, since being a golfer is his job.
“As far as my game and practicing that’s been secondary. We’re trying to get our kids situated to our new living conditions and how that’s going to be. That’s where our focus is at right now. I came back as part of my job, it’s what I do. Me coming back and playing had nothing to do with our decision to move our separate ways,” Woods said.
Just like he did before, aside from taking his part of the blame in all this, Tiger is also the gentleman in saying that no one could possibly find fault with Elin for wanting out of the marriage and refusing to start afresh.
“More sadness. You don’t ever go into a marriage looking to get divorced, that’s why it is sad. My actions certainly led us to this decision. I made a lot of errors in my life. I understand that she is sad and I feel the same way,” he explained.
There is a silver lining to this cloud as well, though: thanks to this (painful) experience, Tiger Woods has learned more about himself, being now able to see his faults for what they are and work towards becoming a better man.
