Tiger Woods will not play for a while in the PGA Tournaments this year. The world number one's decision comes as a result of his father's illness. Earl Woods has been fighting cancer and his son refuses to give the media a clear answer on the time he will be coming back to play in the golf tournaments.
It is believed however that he will compete as soon as the U.S. Open gets under way in June, this year.
"I can't really tell you when I'll be coming back and play, since the situation at home itself is not certain. I really can't predict the time I'll be stepping in again," said Tiger Woods to the media on Wednesday, in Auckland. He is now participating in a car race for celebrities, for Steve Williams Foundation.
"I'm taking some time off now. Especially since I don't know exactly how things stand at home. I want to enjoy the time off, spending it with may father. He's hanging on; he truly is a great fighter," added the world No.1.
Woods is believed to be back by the time the US Open starts, since he is aiming for a 11th win in the tournament. The American Open will take place in June (15-18), at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck.
