Golfer Tiger Woods was involved in a one-vehicle car crash on Friday that sent him to the ER with severe facial lacerations, as we also reported only hours ago. As police documents say that wife Elin Nordegren broke the window of the car and dragged him out, thus saving him, Woods himself is telling friends whatever injuries he has were caused by his wife and not the crash, TMZ has learned.

Reports in the media say that, right before Woods got behind the wheel of his Escalade and then drove it into a fire hydrant and then a tree on one of his neighbors’ lawn, he and wife Elin got into a heated argument over rumors that he was being unfaithful to her. She reportedly got so upset she attacked him with a golf club, and he sought refuge in his car. Unfortunately, she followed him outside the house and continued pounding on the car, which is why Woods crashed into the hydrant, he admittedly told friends.

“Tiger has yet to be formally interviewed by the Florida Highway Patrol – that should happen this afternoon. But we’re told Tiger had a conversation Friday – with a non-law enforcement type – detailing what went down before his Escalade hit a fire hydrant. We’re told he said his wife had confronted him about reports that he was seeing another woman. The argument got heated and, according to our source, she scratched his face up. We’re told it was then Woods beat a hasty retreat for his SUV – but according to our source, Woods says his wife followed behind with a golf club. As Tiger drove away, she struck the vehicle several times with the club,” TMZ writes.

So, it would seem that Elin is far from the heroine she came across just hours ago, when reports emerged saying that she rushed outside and, ignoring all personal safety issues, broke the rear window of the car to save her husband. Granted, police were not entirely convinced of her story, telling the media that, for the time being, they were not ruling out the possibility that the entire accident had been nothing but a domestic matter.

“We’re told Woods became ‘distracted,’ thought the vehicle was stopped, and looked to see what had happened. At that point the SUV hit the fire hydrant and then hit a tree. We’re also told Woods had said during the conversation Friday he had been taking prescription pain medication for an injury, which could explain why he seemed somewhat out of it at the scene,” TMZ also says.

The police investigation to establish the causes of the accident is now underway. So far, it has only been established that alcohol was not a factor, so stay tuned here for further developments.
