Electronic Arts has announced that it plans to add full support for the Sony's motion tracking controller in the new
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11, now set to be launched on June 8. In addition to coming to the PlayStation 3, the game will also be launched on the Xbox 360 from Microsoft, the Nintendo Wii and the iPhone. EA is also saying that it is promoting Rory McIlroy as the co-star of its golf franchise, alongside the long running but also scandal-stricken Tiger Woods.
The company is set to deliver a full-fledged simulation of the well known Ryder Cup, which sees golfers from the United States and Europe battle for one of the most prestigious trophies in the world of sports. The Ryder Cup will be most enjoyable online with other gamers, each team being made up fully by humans but the new mode can also be enjoyed offline, with the player able to swap matches to be sure that they decisively influence the outcome of the competition.
Rory McIlroy should represent the European side of the Ryder Cup rivalry, one of the most promising players hailing from the Old World. He is currently ranked ninth in the world and has made spectacular appearances in top tournaments.
The player himself said, “This is a huge honor for me to be on the cover with Tiger Woods as I grew up idolizing Tiger. The Ryder Cup has always been my favorite sporting event and the tournament is being played at The Celtic Manor Resort in Wales in 2010. Also, I’m hopeful to have an opportunity to represent the European team later in the year – it’s all very special.”
It will be interesting to see how players will respond to support for the Sony motion tracking controller, now set to be launched at some point during the fall, more than a few months after
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 comes out. PlayStation 3 sales will probably be a bit higher than otherwise but players will likely be frustrated because of the lack of the actual peripheral.
