The Buick Open was the perfect chance for Tiger Woods to start a new celebration: his 50th title inside the world of golf. And he took it in style. Even if he had a hard time with Jim Furyk on his tails all the time, Woods managed to keep calm and won the tournament.
The American was coming after a great British Open win. Even if he went through a rough time lately - considering his father's death - Woods regained his confidence on the golf court soon enough. This is his 2nd title after the US Open fiasco earlier this
summer.
"It's pretty cool to get to 50. I've been blessed and had a lot of things go my way. You enter a golf tournament to win. There's no reason to enter if that's not the belief that you have. I came here to win a golf tournament. I was in the golf tournament. Hence, I came here to win it. I was fortunate enough to get it done. There's plenty of times when it does not happen, but you know, your intention should be to win the championship", admitted Woods.
The American made history once again, becoming the younger golf player to win 50 tournaments in career. He broke Jack Nicklaus record, who did the same during his 33rd year of life. The 30-year old clinched his 4th title of the season and his 2nd of career at Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club.
Jim Furyk, his weekend opponent, praised Woods' performance and wished him all the well in breaking Sam Snead's 82-titles record.
"It's an amazing accomplishment. He obviously has a knack of being able to finish off golf tournaments. He puts himself in position a lot, and when he gets there, more often than not, he ends up winning the golf tournament. It's difficult to do. We haven't seen an equal of that in the last I don't know how many years. Definitely my era hasn't seen it", admitted runner-up Furyk.
