Star asks for time to see to his personal life

It’s been two weeks that Tiger Woods was involved in a one-vehicle crash on his neighbor’s lawn, which opened the can of allegations and rumors. Since then, the golfer has kept out of sight, save for a single press statement speaking of unnamed “transgressions” as more and more women were stepping forward to claim they had had affairs with him. In a new statement, the star owns up to his “infidelities” and announces indefinite break from golf.

The statement was posted on his official website, the only channel Woods has used to address the now very public issue. He is extremely sorry at having let so many people down, in particular his wife and children, who are also the most hurt by the recent media scandal. Because of this, Woods has come to the decision that he must take a break from sports completely to focus solely on his personal life and mending whatever he can still fix.

“I am deeply aware of the disappointment and hurt that my infidelity has caused to so many people, most of all my wife and children. I want to say again to everyone that I am profoundly sorry and that I ask forgiveness. It may not be possible to repair the damage I’ve done, but I want to do my best to try.” Woods begins his public apology by saying. In order to make sure that he gives his best in the attempt to get back his family, a break from golf is necessary, he goes on to say.

“I would like to ask everyone, including my fans, the good people at my foundation, business partners, the PGA Tour, and my fellow competitors, for their understanding. What’s most important now is that my family has the time, privacy, and safe haven we will need for personal healing. After much soul searching, I have decided to take an indefinite break from professional golf. I need to focus my attention on being a better husband, father, and person. Again, I ask for privacy for my family and I am especially grateful for all those who have offered compassion and concern during this difficult period.” Woods explains.

As we were also telling you the other day, the cheating allegations and scandal have left quite a dent in Woods’ reputation, with several big sponsors pulling their support and, implicitly, the Tiger Woods commercials from television. Nike is the biggest advertiser to still stand by the golfer, even issuing a statement after the above apology to say it was waiting for him to come back.
