Tiger Woods may be just a couple of seasons away from
equaling Jack Niclaus' record of 18 Major wins inside the PGA. Only 30-years of age, Woods has made the "Nicklaus mark" a true target for his career. After all, becoming number one of all times in golf is what everyone in the PGA wants.
Still, despite reaching his 12th Major title in career at the USPGA last weekend, Woods insisted - at the press conference - that he is still a long way from equaling Nicklaus. Considering the fact that he's not facing any real competition lately, we'd say he's just playing modest.
"It's still a long way away. It's not something I could get next year. It took Jack over 20 years to get his - 18 is a pretty big number. It's going to take a career, and I've just got to keep plugging along", said Woods.
More, according to BBC News, the American ace assured the fans that his golf is now better than ever. And, considering that he was the first player in the modern open era to win all 4 Majors in one year (2001), we might say that a few seasons is all he needs to enter the history books.
"I feel like I'm controlling my ball pretty good right now and, more importantly, I have a better understanding of how to get more out of my round and how to handle my emotions better. I feel like mentally I'm so much better prepared now to handle situations than I was then. Physically, I feel like I'm hitting the ball extremely well. I have a better understanding of my mechanics and my putting stroke now", stated Woods.
Tiger has been through a rough time this season. Earl Woods, his father, passed away in early May.
