I'm afraid it's sad news from India: the country's Kaziranga National Park in the state of Assam is now one tiger short. Thus, it was this past Sunday when local rangers stumbled across the corpse of one such big cat in the park's Kohora forest range.

Since the beginning of this year until present day, a total of four tigers have been found dead in the Kaziranga National Park. Conservationists estimate that the region is home to merely 118 such big cats.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the tiger was a female, and that it probably passed away after it had sustained several injuries, Times of India reports.

Authorities and rangers are yet to determine how the tigress was injured, but evidence at hand suggests that another big cat it got into a fight with might be to blame.

In an attempt to keep illegal wildlife traders from trying to get their hands on the tiger's body in order to sell it on the black market, the corpse has been burnt.
