Not that this should come as a surprise to anyone, but “The Dark Knight Rises” is officially the most anticipated movie of 2012. With so many months to go until release, tickets for it are already available and, in some areas, completely sold out.

“The Dark Knight Rises” is the third and final installment in Chris Nolan's Batman franchise. It's out on July 20 this year but, if you're in luck, you can still get your hands on a ticket for the opening night.

Granted, you also have to be in the US and be willing to pay for an IMAX ticket but, if you are fortunate enough to score an entry to TDKR, our advice is not to be picky about it.

SlashFilm reports that tickets are now available through Fandango only for certain locations, including but not necessarily limited to AMC Loews Metreon 16 in San Francisco, CA, AMC Loews Lincoln Square 13 in New York, NY and AMC CityWalk Stadium 19 in Los Angeles, CA.

TheFilmStage, for one, claims that tickets for the opening night have been available ever since the 6-minute prologue premiered ahead of “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol.”

The theory is corroborated by various Chris Nolan / Batman fans, one of who was even kind enough to make the rest jealous by uploading a photo of his two tickets (see it on SlashFilm).

“Several people have said that tickets went on sale, in the theater, when Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol was released with The Dark Knight Rises prologue. New York, for example, has 'been sold out for weeks',” the movie-oriented e-zine says.

Other fans recall waiting in line for at least one hour to get their own – so, at this point, saying TDKR is hyped is somewhat of an understatement.

Come to think of it, it's no surprise this is happening: not only has Nolan managed to reinvent The Bat altogether, but he did in his own, trademark, grandiose style.

“The Dark Knight Rises” features music by Hans Zimmer and stars Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Michael Caine, Anne Hathaway, Marion Cotillard, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Morgan Freeman.
