With the new year, country star Taylor Swift is preparing to go on tour in support of her chart-topping album “Speak Now.” Not only have the first dates sold out in matters of minutes, but demand was so high a couple more dates were added.
It’s safe to say that Taylor Swift remains one of the hottest and most in demand young artists of today. After all, it’s not for nothing that Entertainment Weekly recently named her
Entertainer of the Year for 2010.
By the looks of things, Taylor will continue this winning streak well into the next year with the brand new tour,
The Hollywood Reporter says.
The first dates for the tour, which kicks off in February in Singapore, have been made available to fans – and they sold out in record time.
“Venue owners coast-to-coast are cheering as the first dates for Taylor Swift’s ‘Speak Now’ tour go on sale. The country star sold out two shows at L.A.’s Staples Center in two minutes, while her June 25 stop at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. (capacity: 68,000) filled within five minutes,” THR notes.
After the
incredible performance of the album of the same name in the first week of release, it’s no wonder fans hurried up to get their hands on tickets for her tour.
“Seven more sell-outs followed, all on the heels of a record-breaking run for her third album Speak Now, which sold over a million copies in its first week out,” the aforementioned e-zine says.
Since demand for the tour was so high, organizers (Messina Group and AEG Live) were forced to add more dates: the Speak Now tour now includes 90 shows in 19 countries.
“The high demand for Swift’s tour prompted venues to add additional shows, including two at Staples on Aug. 27 and 28,” THR also says.
