The scam notifications contain malicious attachments and links to phishing sites

Ticketmaster, the popular Australian ticketing service, is warning customers about scam emails, apparently coming from “[email protected],” which inform recipients that they have been billed for purchasing tickets.

“If you have received a non-valid Ticketmaster Confirmation Email from ‘[email protected]’, please be advised that this email was not sent by Ticketmaster. Current investigations indicate this is a Phishing email and should be deleted,” reads an alert published by Ticketmaster.

The phony notification appears to be designed to trick recipients into opening a malicious file that’s attached to the email. However, The Register has identified some variants of the scam, which contain links to Ticketmaster phishing websites designed to harvest victims' personal details.

Whichever the case may be, make sure that you avoid opening such emails, especially if you know you haven’t made any purchases via Ticketmaster.

If you have bought tickets, carefully analyze any emails that appear to come from Ticketmaster. Never open attachments and, before clicking on any links, make sure that they lead to ticketmaster.com.au and not some other domain.

The fake emails read something like this:

“Thank you for purchasing tickets on Ticketmaster.

Your order number for this purchase is 12-79280/AUS.Complete order detail is attached to this e-mail.

You will receive your tickets via: International Express-Ticketmaster will mail these within 2 business days of the booking. Tickets usually arrive within 10 working days of posting.
