Multimedia is one of those things that the common household usually can't do without, especially when big families are factored in, and TiVo is eager to have its new DVR fulfill all the expectations of prospective customers.

There are many things that the new digital video recorder (DVR) from TiVo brags about, both through the company's press release and its online product and order pages.

One thing is that, though it will sell through cable operators and is expected to handle all broadcasts and such, it will have no trouble living up to their namesake, thanks to the 2 TB HDD on the inside.

Indeed, the product will be able to record many hours of continuous video whenever owners feel like it.

The rest of the item's feature set includes 1 GB of built-in RAM (random access memory), THX certification, Premiere-to-Premiere streaming, a dual-core CPU (or so it is reported) and a bunch of video outputs.

"The sheer power and expansive range of capabilities on the TiVo Premiere Elite answer a demand from our high-end and custom-entertainment consumers; it rounds out our range of products to meet the entertainment needs of all consumers, from general entertainment lovers with TiVo Premiere to the home theater enthusiast with the TiVo Premiere Elite," said Doug Bieter, vice president of Retail Sales for TiVo, Inc.

"By making the TiVo Premiere Elite available at Best Buy Magnolia locations and through select home theater installers, we ensure our customers receive the best advice and professional expertise for their home theater or whole-home solution, and will enjoy TiVo's gold standard user experience."

The TiVo Premiere Elite, as the device is called, should already be up for order on some online retailers, for the price of $499 (367.15 Euro, based on exchange rates).

RCN, and other cable operators, should start offering it by November as well, along with the Premiere Q and Premiere Preview extender boxes.
